WorkCover Queensland

WorkCover Queensland psychology by telehealth

Telehealth Psychology Australia provides psychological support to people with an accepted WorkCover Queensland claim. We see clients by secure video, anywhere in Australia. There is no office to attend and nothing to install. You meet your psychologist from a private space of your choosing.

Your psychologist would be one of our Registered Psychologists with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA. Both hold general registration with no area-of-practice endorsement (generalist scope), and there is no clinical-area fee tier.

Psychological support for workplace injury

Sessions run for approximately 50 minutes (46 to 50 minutes) and use approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, schema therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and supportive therapy. Where it is useful, we use brief validated measures such as the K10, PHQ-9, GAD-7, and DASS-21 to track how you are going over time.

Australian clinical guidance, including from the Australian Psychological Society, supports psychological therapies such as CBT and ACT for conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma. Individual experiences vary.

Approval before sessions begin

Treatment under WorkCover Queensland is funded by the insurer and requires approval before sessions begin.

If you are unsure of your claim number or who your case manager is, your employer, your GP, or WorkCover Queensland can help you confirm these details before you book.

What needs to be in place

  • Your claim must be accepted by WorkCover Queensland or a self-insurer.
  • Psychological treatment is approved by the insurer or your case manager.
  • The first 6 psychology hours are usually pre-approved by WorkCover Queensland. Further sessions require ongoing approval from the insurer or case manager.
  • Telehealth is accepted by WorkCover Queensland, so sessions can be delivered by secure video.

For an approved claim, you pay nothing

For an approved WorkCover Queensland claim, you pay nothing for your sessions. Sessions are billed directly to the insurer, not to you.

$277 per session Billed directly to the insurer, not to you. This applies while treatment is approved and within the approved number of sessions.

If approval lapses or sessions fall outside what the insurer has approved, we will tell you before any further session is booked so there are no surprises.

Working with insurers and providers

We work with insurers, case managers, and rehabilitation providers to support a claimant’s recovery and, where appropriate, return to work.

How to refer

  • Email the referral and approval details to directors@thpa.au, including the claim number, the approved number of sessions, and the insurer or self-insurer.
  • Confirm the claimant’s contact details and consent to be contacted.
  • We will arrange an initial session by secure video and confirm scheduling with the claimant.

Reports and communication

  • We can provide progress updates and reports to the insurer or case manager with the claimant’s consent.
  • We invoice the insurer directly at $277 per session.
  • Telehealth is delivered through Halaxy Telehealth: browser-based video by Amazon Chime, hosted on AWS in Sydney, with AES-256 encryption. Sessions are not recorded.
