NDIS psychology

Psychology support under the NDIS

Telehealth Psychology Australia provides psychological therapy to NDIS participants by secure video, anywhere in Australia. You do not need a referral to begin. We are Registered Psychologists offering structured talking therapy as part of your plan. This page explains how we support participants, who we can work with, how sessions are funded, and how plan managers and support coordinators can engage us.

One-to-one therapy, by secure video

We deliver one-to-one psychological therapy by secure video. Sessions run for approximately 50 minutes (46 to 50 minutes) and are conducted through Halaxy Telehealth, which runs in your web browser with nothing to install. Sessions are not recorded.

The therapies we use include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills, schema therapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and supportive therapy. Where it is helpful, we may use brief, validated questionnaires such as the K10, PHQ-9, GAD-7 or DASS-21 to track how things are going over time.

These therapies are supported by clinical practice guidelines, including those of the Australian Psychological Society. Individual experiences vary, and we will discuss with you what a course of therapy might reasonably involve.

At a glance

  • Telehealth only, Australia-wide, for children and adults.
  • Secure video by Halaxy Telehealth (browser-based; video provided by Amazon Chime on AWS Sydney; AES-256 encryption; sessions are not recorded).
  • Sessions of approximately 50 minutes.
  • Modalities used: CBT, ACT, DBT skills, schema therapy, EMDR, supportive therapy.

Self-managed and plan-managed welcome

Telehealth Psychology Australia is an unregistered NDIS provider. This is a factual statement about our registration status, not a measure of quality. It affects who can use NDIS funding to access our services.

Self-managed participants

Welcome. You manage your own plan funding, and you or we can invoice against your plan as agreed.

Plan-managed participants

Welcome. We invoice your plan manager directly, with no gap for you to pay.

Agency-managed participants

Access is limited, because agency-managed (NDIA-managed) funding generally requires a registered provider.

If you are not sure how your plan is managed, your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm this, or you can contact us and we will talk it through.

Funded from your plan, with no gap

For self-managed and plan-managed participants, there is no gap to pay. The cost is met from your NDIS plan funding (Improved Daily Living or Capacity Building supports, depending on how your plan is structured).

$252.99 per hour Our NDIS rate. This figure is GST-free.
  • NDIS rate: $252.99 per hour (GST-free).
  • Self-managed: no gap; you or we invoice against your plan as agreed.
  • Plan-managed: no gap; we invoice your plan manager directly.
  • An NDIS service agreement applies before the first session.

Before your first session, we will put in place an NDIS service agreement that sets out the service, the rate, our cancellation terms, and how invoicing works. You, or your plan manager, will receive a copy.

The specific terms are set out in your NDIS service agreement so that everything is clear before your first session.

NDIS, answered

A few things people often ask about psychology under the NDIS. If your question is not here, send us a message at directors@thpa.au.

No. NDIS participants do not need a GP referral to begin. You, your plan manager, or your support coordinator can contact us directly.

Access is limited for agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants, because that funding generally requires a registered NDIS provider, and we are an unregistered provider. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can access our services. If you are unsure, contact us and we will help you check.

For self-managed and plan-managed participants, there is no gap. The $252.99 per hour rate is met from your plan funding.

Psychology is generally funded under Capacity Building or Improved Daily Living supports, depending on how your plan is structured. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm this.

Telehealth is widely used for psychological therapy in Australia. We deliver all sessions by secure video. Whether it suits a particular participant is something we are happy to discuss.

Yes. We handle personal and health information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Sessions are not recorded.

We can talk through the options. The NDIS and Medicare Better Access are separate funding streams. Medicare access works differently from the NDIS: it requires a GP referral and a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, and it is not available without one. We will help you understand which stream applies to your situation.
