This page explains the kinds of support we provide and the ways those sessions can be funded. If you already know which pathway applies to you, you can go straight to the relevant page. If you are not sure, read through the streams below and start with the one that fits your situation. Telehealth Psychology Australia provides individual psychology sessions by secure video, Australia-wide. We do not provide in-person appointments.
Individual therapy, delivered by telehealth
The kinds of support we provide, how sessions are delivered, and how the practical side is handled.
- Individual therapy: one to one sessions with a Registered Psychologist. Sessions run for approximately 50 minutes (46 to 50 minutes). We work with children and adults.
- Telehealth delivery: sessions are held by secure video through Halaxy Telehealth. It runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install. Video is provided by Amazon Chime on AWS in Sydney, with AES-256 encryption. Sessions are not recorded.
- Funding handled: we work across Medicare Better Access, NDIS, WorkCover Queensland, DVA, and private (self-funded) arrangements. Halaxy is our primary billing system.
The therapies we draw on include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills, schema therapy, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and supportive therapy. Where it is useful, we may use validated outcome measures such as the K10, PHQ-9, GAD-7, and DASS-21 to track how things are going. These approaches are supported by clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed research; individual experiences vary.
Five ways to fund your sessions
There are five common ways to fund sessions with us. Each is explained in plain language below, with a link to its detailed page.
Medicare (Better Access)
With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare can rebate up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The rebate for a session with a registered psychologist is $101.55. Sessions are $230, so the typical out-of-pocket cost is $128.45. We do not bulk-bill: you pay the full fee and Medicare pays the rebate to you.
You need: a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP Read about Medicare Better AccessNDIS
We welcome self-managed and plan-managed participants. Agency-managed access is limited. You do not need a referral, and plan managers or support coordinators can refer on your behalf. The NDIS rate is $252.99 per hour.
You need: a self-managed or plan-managed plan Read about NDIS sessionsWorkCover Queensland
For approved work-related claims, sessions are billed directly to the insurer at $277 per session. This requires insurer or case-manager approval. The first 6 psychology hours are usually pre-approved, and telehealth is accepted.
You need: an approved claim Read about WorkCover QueenslandDVA
We welcome DVA Gold Card holders, and White Card holders with an accepted mental health condition. DVA pays us directly under its fee schedule, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you.
You need: a D904 referral from your GP See fees and fundingPrivate (self-funded)
If a funding stream does not apply, or you prefer not to use one, you can pay privately. Sessions are $230 and are GST-free.
You need: nothing in advance See full feesCommon concerns we support
We work with people on a range of common concerns. Detailed information about how we approach each one is available by enquiry. Individual experiences vary.
